Studio Āvartana's Bharatanatyam classes are held in Srishti Montessori Pre-School at
Hosa Road, off Sarjapur Road.
There are 3 batches - Junior, Intermediate and Senior. New students are enrolled in the beginning of the year or on Dussehra day.
If you aren't in a position to come to
Studio Āvartana for classes, the studio will come to you. Virtually.
The class timings can be worked out on the basis of the sudent's as well as Gayatri's schedules as well as the time difference,
if any, between the student's country
and India.
Studio Āvartana also offers classes to those who can't attend group classes. One-on-one classes can be taken with Gayatri in her studio. There are also online options for students at advanced levels.
On September 18, 2012, Gayatri Mahadevan, a student of Late Smt. Swagata Sen Pillai, started the Bangalore chapter of Kinkini Dhvani, her guru's dance school based in Delhi, where
Gayatri cut her teeth as a Bharatanatyam dancer. After almost six years of running Kinkini Dhvani Bangalore, Gayatri started Studio Āvartana in April 18, 2018, with the blessings of her guru.
Studio Āvartana is a dance studio where Bharatanatyam is taught in the Kalakshetra style at various levels. The students of Studio Āvartana learn Bharatanatyam from basic adavus on to multiple maargams (sequence of items that make the Bharatanatyam performance format), not just practically, but also theoretically. Our children start taking the esteemed Gandharva Mahavidyalaya exams when they turn 10. They just learn the su not just through the practice of dance, but also and performance on a regular basis, but also hold different levels of certification from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Mumbai. They appear for the exams conducted by Gandharva on a yearly basis.
Gayatri is a Gandharva accredited teacher, and is a gold medalist in Bharatanatyam Alankar, which is a Masters equivalent in the subject.
Today, Āvartana is 5 years old and raring to go, with a repertoire that already spans over three Margams and choreographic innovations not just by Gayatri, but also by her brilliant students.
During Covid times...
The annual show of Studio Āvartana - aptly named Poorna Āvartana, meaning the completion of one cycle, takes place every month during the summer months.
Even through the toughest of times like the Covid 19 outbreak, we stuck to our motto... The show must go on... and Poorna Āvartana continued online.
